
We love pancakes! Cooking pancakes at the campsite is standard operating procedure for us. Our whole wheat and oat recipe is hardy and delicious.
Whole Wheat and Oat Pancakes
Delicious hearty pancakes for camping
Mix all dry ingredients ahead of time and bring along on your next camping trip.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup whole grain oats
- 1 TBL baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1 + cups of milk (adjust to desired thickness)
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 TBL Honey and/or Maple Syrup
- Butter
- Fruit for topping
Directions
- Mix together first 4 dry ingredients (flour, oats, baking powder, cinnamon).
- Add eggs, milk, vanilla, and honey (or syrup).
- Stir until all ingredients are combined; add more or less milk to achieve desired thickness of pancakes.
- Heat butter in an iron skillet over medium heat. Don’t let the butter burn.
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into skillet.
- Cook until pancakes are bubbly then flip over.
- Cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve with fruit and maple syrup.
Start by mixing all the dry ingredients, then add the milk, eggs, vanilla, and honey (or maple syrup). Stir until all ingredients form a batter.


Heat an iron skillet to medium. Add a small amount of butter or olive oil. Drop batter into skillet with a large spoon. Cook until bubbly then flip over and cook until golden brown. Serve with fruit and maple syrup. Yum!
