Warm and Spicy for the Holidays

Let your guests add the honey or stevia to their individual taste. Goes great with 1/2 cup hibiscus tea per serving to dilute the alcohol content.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 slices of fresh ginger
  • 1/2 of a vanilla bean
  • 1/4 of a crushed whole nutmeg
  • honey or stevia to taste
  • hibiscus tea (optional – to reduce alcohol content)

Directions

  1. Add spices to pot
  2. Add wine
  3. Use medium heat to bring wine to a slow simmer. DO NOT BOIL – it will remove the alcohol.
  4. Turn to low and slow simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Strain and serve!

Choose your favorite red wine and add the spices to a pot. Cinnamon is the star of the show – it adds a warm, sweet, and spicy note. Star anise brings in an aromatic, sweet licorice taste. Nutmeg adds a nutty, sweet, slightly peppery flavor. Ginger gives the mix a bit of zesty heat. Vanilla bean brings together all the flavors with a creamy sweet finish. Sweeten to your taste buds with honey or stevia.

Tip: make ahead of time; strain into a jar with a tight lid; refrigerate up to 3 days. Re-warm and serve with a cinnamon stick. Take it to go!
